Plane Rebelliousness

Oct 6, 2020 | Poetry

I sat on a plane not long ago,
With two young men seated behind;
One refused to slide up his mask,
The other sat slightly reclined.

The stewardess had to inform the pilot –
And he walked back to politely explain,
“You have to follow rules and wear it,
Or else I won’t be able to fly this plane.”

He grudgingly pulled it over his nose,
As they walked back up to the front;
Pulling it back down he mumbled,
And his friend let out a grunt.

Another stewardess walked the aisle,
Checking to see if all seatbelts were buckled.
I heard her ask the guy behind me,
If his was secure and he chuckled.

He told her he did not think he had one,
As she asked him to remove items from his lap;
He whined and complained like his friend,
And I wanted so much to reach behind and slap!

I thought of my mom when I was a teen,
Oh the lessons we learned with a switch;
I was thankful for the discipline given,
And would have complied without a glitch!

This world is turning away from principles,
Many people rebel, are selfish, and they hate;
Some think it’s ok to behave so badly,
But this will lock them out of His Heavenly gate!
