Putting Others Before Yourself

Jul 27, 2020 | Faith, Life

In My Life Story My Way Day 80, I touched up on the Bible verse that says to think of others before yourself. I really think this world has gone into a selfish mode and away from a God’s expectations!

The younger generations have not seen or experienced life hardships like those of the past generations. Yes, many go through hardships and suffer today, but I mean by the bigger picture. Most have had the luxury of turning on a switch for your lights to come on verse lighting a lamp. Many can just turn on the faucet for water verse going to a water source to get buckets of water for washing and cooking.

It used to be that being polite and courteous was a must, but now there are way too many who would take a seat over an elderly person, close the door in another’s face without opening it for them, and even lacking to say thank you or please!

When God said in Philippians 2:3 to “Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves,” He meant several things. I’d like to explain that verse and break down what He means.

The first part about selfishness and empty conceit means just as it says: Don’t think you are better than anyone else and think others owe you anything. When He says to not do anything out of these two, He means the behavior that comes from your heart. If we walk around with attitudes that tell others we are more important that you then God sees that as a sin on our part. He says He will show NO partiality toward anyone and that means He sees NO favor in anyone and all will be judged on His terms.

He says to do things being humble toward others. We must have a mind set to look at others as more important than ourselves! Don’t get this confused with an attitude like everyone else is a celebrity because even the celebrities are on a same level in God’s eyes as we are. Everyone falls short and sins. Everyone will bow before Him whether they believe or not.

Doing for others is more of a want to treat others with respect and treat them better than yourself because you would want that same treatment. If you act more important than those around you, do you really think they will think highly of you? No they won’t! They’ll see someone being rude and obnoxious. They’ll see someone who is selfish that they won’t want to associate with.

God’s Word, His Bible, is such an awesome reference on how we should live. He is our ultimate example who gave us instructions on how to make it to Heaven. With everything going on today, His ways are being drowned out by selfishness, evil, and stubbornness.

Here are some examples to help get our world back into graces:

1). Read His Bible and let it touch your heart!
2). When you are hurting or sad, put your thoughts and prayers onto someone else who needs them!
3). Stop and think how you yourself would like to be treated and start treating others the same way you wish to be treated.
4). If you see someone struggling physically, mentally, or just needing a hand with regular chores, then just stop and help them. God says even those who simply give a glass of water to someone thirsty will be praised!
5). Open doors, say please, say thank you to others!
6). Maybe there is someone you know who needs help or money, humble yourselves and give of yourself.

God knows even how many strands of hair we have on our heads and He also knows every thought, word, or deed we say or do. If we could just go back to His principles and humbleness, perhaps this world will improve. We just have to do our part!
