Wondering Over Swampland Delight

Jun 4, 2020 | Poetry

Moving closer to the airboat,
My eyes scan the water so calm;
My nervousness has mounted,
To the point of blowing like a bomb!

We scale over the edge of the side,
To only plop down on a hard seat;
The beauty of our surroundings,
Turns nerves to a awe of neat.

Oaks and Willows jut from the water,
Where most of the waves are caused by boats;
This swamp is a land of beauty,
Where even some dare to paddle on floats!

Our guide glides over water and limbs,
Dodging the trees, shrubs, and stumps unseen;
He says he knows where each stump lies,
Under the water that seems so serene.

Green blankets of purple flowers and moss,
Blanket the water we part as we go;
The guide taps the water with his paddle,
And an alligator puts on his show!

It opens its mouth wide to devour,
The piece of meat that our guide offers;
It reminded me of how one puts,
Needed funds into church coffers.

Different size alligators come from all over,
As he continues to stop here and there;
We drive among the Highway pillars,
And cautiously around fishermen with care.

We see an eagle nest with babies, And their dad in a tree to their right;
In this Alligator’s Space there is beauty,
Of God’s love in His Swampland delight!
