As I walk down the driveway I see,
A shattered moth the color of green;
I bend to check it out,
It’s one like I have never seen!
I gently flick my finger near its face,
And you can tell it is no longer alive;
With its wings so broken and torn,
No wonder it couldn’t survive!
I ponder on what happened to it,
Was it the rain or maybe a prey;
Its wings spanned four inches,
And its eyes an emerald grey.
How dainty and frail such a creature,
That it doesn’t take much to harm;
In this world so large and vast,
That it can quickly lose its charm!
Though gone yet still so pretty,
Its broken wings announce its demise.
Yet the span of its wings outstretched,
Gave beauty to my eyes!
