Plague Of Punishment

God is always in charge no matter what happens in our lives. We think about the virus going on today in our world and how bad it is. The source of the original virus came from China they say. Some conspire and think it is our own government. Who knows where it all started and why, but we know that no matter what, God is in charge! In the Old Testament there were many plagues that came over God’s people. One in particular one that I would like to talk about is an Exodus 32.

inverse 35, it reads that the Lord plagued the people because of what they did with the calf which Aaron made. I want to explain this calf. In Exodus, Moses went to the top of Mount Sinai to have a discussion with our Lord. The Lord was instructing Moses to tell the children of Israel the rules that He expected them to live by. This was the time frame when the Lord himself wrote on the two tablets the Ten Commandments.

Moses was on the mountain for quite some time and the children of Israel were concerned because they did not know what happened to him. Moses, by the Lord guiding them, led them out of slavery out of the hands of Pharaoh and even through the Red Sea heading to the promised land flowing with milk and honey, which is Canaan. Moses lead them all the way to the base of Mount Sinai.

So when their leader did not return they asked Aaron to make for them gods to guide them. Aaron foolishly listened to the people and had them gather all of their gold from their earrings jewelry or anything they wore. He took that gold and placed it in fire and a golden calf was resurrected. This was an idol that was forbidden and when Moses returned the people were dancing and worshiping this idol.

The tablets that Moses was carrying was broken when his anger arose and he threw them on the ground. Moses had the calf thrown into the fire, ground down into fine powder, thrown into the water, and made the people drink it. That was just a punishment from Moses, but when Moses went back up onto Mount Sinai to approach the Lord on behalf of the children of Israel, the Lord said in Exodus 32:34-35, “Now therefore, go, lead the people to the place of which I have spoken to you. Behold, My Angel shall go before you. Nevertheless, in the day when I visit for punishment, I will visit punishment upon them for their sin. So the Lord plagued the people because of what they did with the calf which Aaron made.”

I want to make it clear that I am not saying that God has caused this virus that kills people, hurts people, and causes havoc all over this world. But with a thought in mind of what happens when we sin, we have to consider the way that this world happens to be turning. There are too many who do not believe in His word anymore and there are too many who disobey what is written in His word. Today there are people who are considered to be on the left and who are to be considered to be on the right, but in fact this was the case and the Bible as well.

In Matthew 25:41, He says, “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.’” In Ecclesiastes 10:2 it says, “A wise man’s heart directs him toward the right, but the foolish man’s heart directs him toward the left.” God referred to those who were on the left is being evil and He told them that there was an eternal fire prepared for them.

Those who do not believe in the Lord have a sad sorry outlook and unless this world changes for the better, this world is going to hurt. So whether or not the Lord has allowed this virus to come upon us, it is our duty to make sure that we are living God‘s way. Whether or not a person believes in the Lord or not, He said that every knee will bend to Him; Not just every knee of those who believe but every knee of those who do not believe and we all will be held accountable for what we know about the Bible. These things are written.

In Philippians 2:10-11, He said that in the name of Jesus every knee shall bow. The word ‘shall’ in the Bible means will. Joshua 1:8 says, “This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success.” Matthew 4:4 says, “But he answered and said, ‘It is written, man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.’”

Roman’s 2:12-16 says, “All who sin apart from the law will also parish apart from the law, and all who sin under the law will be judged by the law. For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God‘s sight, but it is those who obey the law who will be declared righteous. (indeed, when Gentiles, who do not have a law, do by nature things required by the law, they are a law for themselves, even though they do not have the law. They show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences, also bearing witness, and their thoughts sometimes accusing them and at other times even defending them.) This will take place on the day when God judges people’s secrets through Jesus Christ, as my gospel declares. Everyone will be judged by God and He expects us to know what He expects of us and that is by His Word not our own.

The sound that is going on in this world today is outrageous. God’s word, not mine, says that Homosexuality is wrong, lying is wrong, killing His babies is wrong, and the list continues! Many do not know His Word and He is being rejected over and over. There are many righteous souls but I fear many more unrighteous for He does say that few will enter His New Kingdom.Have nothing to do with such people.

In 2 Timothy 3:1-5, God is specific about the end times. It says, “ but mark this: there will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God –having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.” And what are we experiencing today? God said that not even His Son Jesus knew when the end would come but we are told to beware. Is there more punishment for our sinning to come? We can change this world but only by asking His forgiveness and living His way.
