I wrote a poem the other day about the pain in my toes. About the same time our daughter had her tic disease issues, we were getting ready for church one morning when we collided feet around a corner in our house. Her foot won since she was wearing shoes!
My toes turned so red right away and swelled up twice their size. Of course there is not much you can do for broken toes and I knew that’s what happened. We heard the best way to heal toes was by taping them together so that’s what my husband did.
Of course it didn’t help the pain so I went on hobbling around a while. Eventually I felt like I was walking around with literally a golf ball where the toe joints meet. I decided to see my Dr. who then sent me to a surgeon. The diagnosis was a Morton’s Neuroma, which basically is calcium deposit built up around nerves.
At that point almost a year after the accident, I had enough suffering and decided to have surgery to remove it. After the surgery and at the follow-up appointment, the surgeon told me there really wasn’t anything much to clean up and I heard him and his nurse talking about me and laughing as I left the exam room.
I was highly disappointed in them and when they saw me they immediately shut up. I wish I had done more research in Dr.’s instead of trusting what Dr. I was sent to. People, you have to listen to your body and you yourselves know how you feel and what is going on for the most part!
My toes healed up only to have the same issues. This time it took me a longer time to go back to a surgeon. After a few years and other issues of the body overprotecting and compensating usage, it was getting a bit unbearable.
This time, I did my own research and asked questions about Dr.’s! Guess who everyone did not recommend because he was a quack: the surgeon I previously had! Ugh! How can these Dr.’s keep their license when they mess so many people up?
I saw a new Dr. and he shook his head. He said the other did not know what he was doing. After further scans, I now had “multiple” neuromas. I have opted out of surgeries and have been getting shots to help alleviate the pain. They seem to work ok along with wearing the proper shoes.
The build-up has caused my toes to separate a little, but if I can hold off as long as I can, I’m good! When it comes to your feet, as you all know, that is your whole balance and all your weight has to be supported somehow! Unfortunately I have too much weight for my feet.
Growing up, we did not have the money to spend on shoes and we lived in hand-me-downs. That’s perfect for some, but as you know, that’s probably something you should not do. You can weaken your feet by being too scrunched in shoes or not enough support to hold your feet steady from flopping around in shoes too wide or big.
It is important to get the correct size shoes for your feet. It may be out of your control on how much you can spend, but you can have your feet measured to see your size for your feet. Then, there are cheaper shoes and bargain shoes out there, but just wear your proper size. Not only did breaking my toes not help my feet, but also not wearing the proper size shoes. Do what you must to educate yourself on shoes, size, and especially a Dr. if you must see one.
