Sorry I have not posted lately, but our daughter got married a couple of days ago here at our home and we were extremely busy getting ready and preparing the food and cheesecakes. Her wedding brought back memories of our own wedding.
Family always kicks in to help when you need them! Well, most families do and ours were back then and for our daughter’s wedding all the same! Our wedding was huge and that is not a joke! With both of us coming from large families and having so many friends as well, we ended up with approximately 600 guests. Since this COVID-19 social distancing messed up our daughter’s plans and there were only 16 guests which also included the 2 photographers and the preacher who were present at her wedding.
In the days my husband and I married, most families fixed their own wedding meals and caterers were used for those who could afford it. My family pitched in and fixed everything and I understand from over the years of fixing meals for many just how much work it had to have taken to feed that many! For our daughter’s wedding, her husband’s family made a couple of dishes as well as a friend of ours! I will always be grateful for them!
I fixed some dishes for this wedding with the help of my family. I just cannot express enough on how grateful I am for family and friends! My knee is currently paying for everything now, but if I had not had help, I don’t even want to think about how bad it would have been.
My husband’s family was also so helpful for our own wedding. One took me flower shopping and made all the flower arrangements and things! Another helped decorate the gym we had our reception in and they all worked together to make our day special!
One was a cake baker/decorator and she made a gorgeous cake for us! So many family hands were into our wedding and I think how our daughter planned and fixed her own. She was planning on a 350 guest list that dwindled down to 40 and then to 16. So many changes and emotions that I am thankful I didn’t have to experience. My heart broke for them, but in the end, it was made fantastic by family and her friend.
My husband sat down the day after her wedding and said, “All the work and in 2 hours it was over.” The same thoughts ran through my head right after our wedding day. And, I recall our daughter saying beforehand, “All this preparation and then it will be over.”
I think everyone experiences this but the memories made are something you cherish always! My husband and I sang to each other during our ceremony. That is one memory not only we ourselves have, but a lot who witnessed our wedding still recall. Someone said that our wedding was one they would never forget since there was not a dry eye in the church.
Our daughter has a memory of hers that they won’t forget nor those of our families who were blessed to attend. The preacher and photographers were eating with us as we celebrated their first meal together as husband and wife. I remember how my husband was whisked away to take pictures while I was left to eat by myself. I was not happy with our photographers but these for our daughter was amazing!
I am thankful for my sister-in-law who drove 2 hours each way to fix my and our daughter’s hair for both our wedding and our daughter’s! Family is selfless and I am blessed to have such a loving family! My hope and prayer is that anyone reading this values their family and friends as much as I do!
We have family and friends who are currently in the same situation as our daughter and her husband as they try to figure out whether or not to cancel, postpone, rearrange, change location to a private setting, or downsize their plans and dreams. Our hearts go out to them and anyone else in this situation. Many lives have been affected by this virus and many relatives have died as well and I am praying for everyone!
We were very fortunate to have our dream wedding and I thank The Lord for the almost 30 years of marriage. I thank The Lord for family and friends who helped make it happen and for those who bent over backwards to help our daughter and us.
