My Life Story My Way Day 52

Allergies are causing havoc among the COVID-19 virus spreading! Most allergy specialists have accommodated their patients by appointment times for allergy shots. Since I am high risk, I have not made an appointment to get my shots. Someone called and told me they made their appointment for their weekly shot and couldn’t get in until about May 6th!

I have suffered from allergies for years! After I married my husband in 1990, I went for my first allergy testing. I recall those many shots on my arm and back and how they itched! I was allergic to about everything! I was only tested for a few foods since our insurance wouldn’t cover foods. Don’t understand why they don’t since it seems everyone I talk with has some kind of food allergy!

I began my shots with going twice a week then eventually once a week. I was pretty naive! The Dr. I went to had a practice of having his patients take their shirts off just to listen to their lungs and airways. He was an older Dr. and we were always taught to respect your elders and do as you were told.

Not a bad thing, until you realize with God’s word that modesty is a must and most other Dr.s didn’t make you undress to listen to even your heart! I started to refuse getting undressed and he’d shrug but at least comply to my wishes. I began to be just a little uncomfortable with him and then I really knew I had to change Dr.’s when the ole cranky pants yelled at one of the nurses for talking to me.

When you see someone twice a week then once a week for a long time, you get to know them and really should get to know them for your own safety and concern! I asked the nurse how she was one day and as she responded, he yelled at her. I felt bad for her and felt bad for talking to her and getting her in trouble.

I had to change Dr.’s and that was that. I read the scripture where God says if you have issues with others you should first go to them and talk to work it out. I decided to write him a letter and at least explain why I was no longer seeing him.

I explained my unease and told him he was wrong to yell at her when it was his own patient starting a conversation and feeling at ease with the surroundings and needles! I explained how his crankiness affected his patients and why several had already quit before me. He needed to understand that perhaps he needed to change and make things right.

We are also told by God to gently let others know their wrong so they can change for the better when they are on a wrong path. In my heart, I knew that this was right. About a year later, I came across that same nurse and she looked at me with excitement and said, “Thank you! I have never had anyone stick up for me like you did! I saw the letter and watched him open and read it. He just snarled and threw it in the trash. I probably should not have, but picked it up out of the trash later and read it. I decided to quit after that and move on to better things.”

If he did not change as I prayed for, then perhaps that letter helped her to see her way out of a bad situation. Good came from that letter and I was happy she found a better job. And yes, it was where I now go to get my shots. She, however, is no longer there for her own reasons, but I am happy for her. I am happy I have found an amazing Dr. and wonderful atmosphere to go. The nurses and staff are amazing!

It is important to research every Dr. you need to see. It does not matter if they are an ENT, Heart Specialist, Gynecologist, Oncologist, or what have you. It will be of your best interest to check them out. There are so many resources online now and even Facebook. You may get many different opinions from others, but there is usually a consensus among them!

Hang in there allergy sufferers! If you are not sure how to distinguish between just allergies and the virus, give your Dr.’s office a call and ask! Keep your sinuses cleansed by way of the Netti Pot of sinus rinses. There is a surplus of nose sprays and eye drops, but, you may have to try several before you know which works best for you. Ask your Dr. about inhalers! If you wheeze really bad, they may come in very useful! Sore throat sufferers, the old fashioned gargling with salt water does help!

Keep up with your shots as much as you can because they do help! Also, check out natural healers such as going to nature herbal stores and online DoTerra or Nature’s Sunshine. Ask an employee for help. And, if you need to be outside, wear a mask and a hat to protect your face.
