Growing Up With Responsibilities Yet Having Fun

The life of a teenager can be quite interesting. We were raised a lot stricter than most of my friends and neighbors but we were taught to have a backbone and to be responsible. Work always came first and we learned to save up our money because we did not have much money and we had to pay for own personal items, vehicles, insurance, and such. We lived on hand-me-downs and blessings! I thought I had a rough way to go but am now grateful and was taught value in all things.

I played church sports and went to a Catholic grade school and played basketball and was even a cheerleader. After grade school we went to a public school and since it was too far away to travel for sports, I was fortunate to be able to play basketball for our church organization against other churches. The church and gym was only maybe 3/4 a mile away and I could walk to practice and bum rides to games. The first year we started we were a mess! We lost to one bigger church group but came back in the championship game and beat them! That was one year of pure pressure and growth.

The clarinet was my music class instrument but I really should have played the piano. I self taught myself to play the piano and had a passion for it for a while. At that age I was still figuring out the talents I had. I loved singing and sometimes wrote poetry to God in song form, just didn’t ever work on the actual notes for them. One day I might yet!
