My Life Story My Day 48

I think I mentioned in an earlier post that our son loved riding his dirt bike. Well, so did our daughter. She loved riding as well. She was not the dare devil our son was and rode her bike more slowly and carefully.
They asked me one day if I would like to ride and of course I refused. I was a larger person and there was no way I could balance on one of those things. Well, after several rounds of convincing, I broke down and rode our son’s! It was actually really easy and I managed riding in our yard and around the house I think.
That was the only time I rode one. I liked it, but was a bit of afraid of it all the same. After experiencing our son wrecking his and fracturing his wrist, I felt breaking my neck was probably not a good idea.
My husband came home way day kind of limping into the house and I asked him what was wrong. He said, ” I was riding my dirt bike through the pasture to check on the cows and I didn’t see a small log in the pathway. It stopped me in my tracks and I went flying through the air and landed on my back.”
One day while working on something I was preparing to can in jars – can’t even remember what it was now – our daughter was riding around in the back fields and around. She was on her bike a little while when I heard her coming up around the house where I was in the yard.
It was like slow motion! She came around the curve of our driveway and I can still see her sliding sideways and landing on the pavement as her arm hit first. The dirt bike kept sliding down the driveway to across the road. I remember running to her as our son ran to get the bike. Her wrist hurt and the final diagnosis was a fractured wrist!
All I can say is that at least there were no serious injuries and both of our kids seem to always come out of their accident alive and well! After our son grew up a bit, one of his friends told me one day just how crazy our son got on his when he rode it in the knobs! My heart about hit the floor!
The things kids will do behind their parent’s back! I thought about that. I was actually no different. There was a few occasions when I fibbed a little and said I was going somewhere when I didn’t. I look back on it and cringe at my dishonesty now, but at least I was not a really bad person that did really bad things. But dishonesty is still wrong.
We have many we know who rode and still ride dirt bikes today. A lot around here have 4-wheelers as well. We have known a few who have had wrecks and not made it. It is sad and our hearts break for the families. Makes one very appreciative for their own children.
If anyone has anyone in your family or knows someone who rides dirt bikes, 4-wheeler, or things like this, please stress over and over the importance of helmets and safety. My husband was not wearing a helmet but our kids always did, at least as far as I know!
We are not promised tomorrow, not even the next minute or second and our lives can be turned with no thought to it. Always love and forgive each other. Always ask God to protect and watch over those you love and beyond! God says to love all. I am blessed to still have my family, but many are not so lucky.
