Do You Pray For Wisdom Filling Your Heart?

Jan 16, 2026 | Faith

Our faith leads us to pray. When we pray do we ask for the Lord’s wisdom in our prayers and supplications? Every situation in life is so different and I think it is fair to say we do ask for His guidance in dealing with each experience we have.

But outside of our worldly issues, how often do we ask Him for wisdom in our every day lives? I always look to Solomon in 1 Kings 3 and 2 Chronicles 1:8 when Solomon responded to God’s generosity of Solomon’s offering to Him. God told Solomon to ask for anything he desired and of all the things Solomon could ask for, he responded, “You have dealt with my father David with great loving kindness, and have made me king in his place. Now, O Lord God, Your promises to my father David are fulfilled, for You have made me king over a people as numerous as the dust of the earth. Give me now wisdom and knowledge that I may go out and come in before this people, for who can rule this great people of Yours?” A king asking for this instead of more wealth or gold, or worldly gifts! Can you imagine why God loved Solomon so much? Yes!

Not only did God grant him this knowledge but He also gave him the riches and prestige he did not ask for! We ask in our timely need but do we ask on a daily basis? Solomon was a great example and his deeds proved worthy! James 3:13 says, “Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom.” Solomon humbled himself and left us to learn from his example! He prospered by way of the Lord. Proverbs 19:8 says the one who gets wisdom loves life; the one who cherishes understanding will soon prosper. In 1 Kings 3:16-28, there were two women harlots, prostitutes, who came to King Solomon because each had a child within three days of each other and the one child died. Being they lived in the same home by themselves, the one whose son died got up in the middle of the night and switched babies so she stole the one alive. They argued and then King Solomon said, “Get me a sword, Divide the living son in two and give half to each.” He knew the real mother would protest. The true mom did just that and the other said to divide him! He used the wisdom God blessed him with to figure out who the real mother was and the child was returned to the real mother.

In Proverbs 9:10 it says the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. Faith helps us grow and when we grow, our hearts and minds are opened up to His truth and wisdom! The more we let God into our lives and pray, the more we gain His wisdom. We can pray in our time of need, but it is important to pray for His wisdom daily! I love the verse in Matthew 12:43-45. You have to fill your heart with the Lord to snuff out the evil that wants to take residence! These verses explain you can clean up the house but if you do not fill it the evil sees that and brings his friends back with him!

Prayer is more than just when we need Him, it is about a constant relationship with Him. He says He knows what we need before we ask. That is because He expects us to communicate with Him. Relationships are not just one sided. If you want Him to help and bless you too, you have to make the effort to do so and with a pure heart not a deceiving or selfish heart. Solomon was at a loss at knowing what to do but he reached and asked the Lord for His help. He did ask in a need situation, but he asked from purity and conviction. Are we sincere when we ask our Lord for His help? Reach down deep in your heart and just have that conversation with Him!
