My Life Story My Way Day 50

I looked out this morning and saw smoke barreling around the corner of the shed doors from a family member’s tractor. It brought me back to my teenage years. I slept in our basement and it was my responsibility to keep the wood stove going since I slept in the room with the stove.

It was a pain getting out of bed in the middle of a good night sleep to keep it hot during those really cold winter nights. But, I kept warmer than the rest sleeping upstairs!

I can remember one early morning having a dream about not being able to get out of a smoke-filled room. I remember in that dream thinking I had to get out! I was awakened by mom yelling down the stairs asking what in the world I was doing down there.

My eyes shot open and I was blinded by tears from the smoke! The chimney flu plugged up and the whole room was so clouded I could barely see and I was coughing because I couldn’t breathe! I was lucky I did not die from smoke inhalation!

I shot out of bed so fast and hollered up that it was probably plugged and we got things fixed in no time. There were pipes that ran up from the stove and curved to go outside through a window area and in that right angle bend, the ashes had collected for a while and caused the plug.

I eventually got back to sleep after the smoke cleared. The room I was in was offset by carpet walls and there were no doors so to speak but curtains hung for doors and things could be aired out. I laid back in bed thinking of that dream and what happened.

Questions flooded my head with whether God sent that dream so I’d wake up! I do know one thing for sure: it was not my time to go yet and I was alive! I was blessed for sure! I mulled thoughts over in my brain that following week thinking I could have easily died! It bothered me!

But as much as it bothered me, I knew God was there with me! God’s hand was at work even when I slept. I thought about what we were taught about each having a guardian angel and knew I had one.

Looking back, I hadn’t known much or thought about angels. The Bible references them as being there to do God’s will. Did God send an angel to wake and protect me? Does He send angels to this day to help those who are His?
